Mission Statement

The mission of the Welsh Fire Department is to provide progressive fire protection to the citizens of Welsh.  We have 20 firemen that are dedicated to responding to the call for help day or night. We provide fire and medical response as well as rescue services.  We are fortunate that the previous and current town administration has supported our direction and attainment of the best equipment available to provide a safe working environment for our firemen while we work in the harshest environments.  Our firemen have some the highest level of training available in the state and we receive most of our training through LSU Fire Training along with Texas A&M and Lamar Fire Training. We have National Registered Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) and state certified Emergency Medical Responders on our fire department and continuing education is required to maintain their certification.

 

We respond to an average of 420 calls per year with a 100% volunteer group of dedicated men. We have a Property Insurance Association (PIAL) rating of a class 4 which is essential to keeping the residents of Welsh’s homeowner’s insurance rates as low as possible. We have 3 fire engines and 2 rescue units that are fully stocked with medical supplies, Jaws of Life extrication equipment, emergency lighting, fire suppression foams and 7 Automated Electronic Defibulators (AED’s). We have a fresh breathing air cascade trailer to fill our Self Contained Breathing Apparatus which are the air packs that we use to breath air in house fires. We provide Fire Prevention activities to Welsh Elementary School grades Pre K through 5 and also provide home and business safety inspections throughout the year when requested.

 It is an honor to serve the Town of Welsh as their Fire Chief for over 20 years. Welsh is the greatest place to live and raise a family and I am proud to be born and raised in this wonderful community.
